Understanding exactly what happens during our complimentary in-home evaluation removes anxiety and helps you prepare effectively. Here is the complete step-by-step process.
Our care coordinator arrives at your scheduled time (or calls if running late due to traffic). They present official company identification, wear a visible name badge, and introduce themselves professionally. If your loved one is present, they greet them warmly by name, speak slowly and clearly, explain why they have come in simple terms, and ask permission before entering private areas. First impressions matter deeply to anxious seniors; we move at their pace.
Seated comfortably in the living room, the coordinator asks open-ended questions about daily routines, recent health changes, medications currently taken (we do not require a full medication list—just general categories), mobility limitations, cognitive status, dietary restrictions, sleep patterns, bathroom habits, fall history, and emotional wellbeing. Family members share concerns freely while the coordinator takes detailed notes on a clipboard. Nothing is rushed or judged.
With your permission, the coordinator tours every room where care will occur—kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways, staircases, entryways, basement, garage, and outdoor spaces. They check for trip hazards (loose rugs, cords, clutter), lighting adequacy (especially nighttime pathways), grab bar presence near toilets and tubs, shower/tub accessibility (step-over height, non-slip surfaces), smoke detector functionality, thermostat settings, refrigerator contents (food freshness), medication storage security, and emergency exit clarity. Every observed risk is documented with photo notes and shared with you before leaving.
Back in the living area, the coordinator summarizes findings, proposes an initial draft care plan covering which services address identified needs, suggested shift lengths and frequencies, preferred caregiver personality traits (quiet vs chatty, active vs relaxed), backup arrangements for illness or absence, communication protocols between caregivers and family members, and estimated weekly costs based on your chosen schedule. You review everything together, ask unlimited questions, adjust any detail that feels wrong, and sign nothing binding today.
